Biography of Camille Doncieux

Camille Doncieux was the first wife of the artist Claude Monet. She served as the model for several of his paintings, including "Women in the Garden," where she posed for all the female figures in the canvas, and "The Lady in Green." Camille gave birth to two sons, Jean in 1867 and Michel in 1878. The birth of their second child weakened Camille's already fragile health, and she passed away shortly after. Monet painted her posthumous portrait titled "A Stroll: Camille Monet with Her Son Jean (Woman with a Parasol)" in 1875, which is now displayed in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Camille Doncieux's presence can be seen in other artworks as well. She is depicted in Édouard Manet's painting "The Monet Family in the Garden" from 1874, which is housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Another portrayal of Camille can be found in Pierre-Auguste Renoir's work "Madame Monet and Her Son" from the same year, which is exhibited in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Monet's posthumous portrait of Camille, created in 1879, is currently held in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
