Early Career
José Altafini, a Brazilian winger, began his professional career with the Olaria Athletic Club in Rio de Janeiro. In 1962, he was acquired by the Italian club Napoli.
Napoli Success
During his seven-year tenure with Napoli, Altafini became one of the club's most prolific scorers in European competitions, netting an impressive 8 goals. He played an integral role in their success during this period.
Transfer to Bari
In 1969, Altafini made the move to the Serie B club Bari. He spent three seasons with the team, helping them achieve promotion to Serie A in 1970.
Return to Napoli
After a successful stint at Bari, Altafini returned to Napoli in 1972. He continued to play for the club for three more seasons before retiring from his playing career in 1975.
Coaching Career
Upon retirement, Altafini transitioned into coaching. He initially worked with Napoli's youth academy before taking the helm of smaller Italian clubs.
Napoli Head Coach
During the 1994-1995 season, Altafini was officially appointed as Napoli's head coach. However, the team was effectively managed by Vujadin Boskov, who lacked the necessary coaching license at the time.
