Emiliano Insua's Early Life and Career
Emiliano Insua is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a left-back. Despite never making his debut for his boyhood club, Boca Juniors, he was highly regarded as a promising young talent.
Liverpool Loan and Premier League Debut
In November 2006, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez signed Insua on an 18-month loan deal, with an option to buy. Insua made his Premier League debut for Liverpool in April 2007 in an away match against Portsmouth.
International Success with Argentina
Insua has represented Argentina at various youth levels. He was part of the Under-20 team that finished second at the South American Youth Championship in 2007 and won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in the same year. He also made one appearance for the Under-23 team.
Permanent Move to Liverpool and Career Progression
In August 2007, Liverpool signed Insua on a permanent contract as part of a deal that sent Gabriel Paletta to Boca Juniors. Insua made his first appearance of the season for Liverpool in May 2008, solidifying his position as a potential challenger to Jon Arne Riise's place in the starting lineup. In July 2008, Liverpool announced that Insua had signed a contract extension until 2011.
