Biography of Carlos Acosta
Carlos Acosta, a ballet star from Havana, was awarded the prestigious Laurence Olivier Prize for outstanding achievement in dance for his performances in 2006 at Sadler's Wells Theatre. Acosta was born in Havana and studied dance at the National Ballet School of Cuba. In 1990, he won the First Prize at the Prix de Lausanne competition in Switzerland, and his dance career rapidly progressed from there.

Early Career
After his win at the Prix de Lausanne, Acosta became a principal dancer for the English National Ballet from 1991 to 1992. He then danced with the Cuban National Ballet under the direction of Alicia Alonso from 1992 to 1993. From 1993 to 1998, Acosta was a principal dancer for Houston Ballet under the direction of Ben Stevenson.
London Royal Ballet
In 1998, Acosta joined the Royal Ballet in London and became its principal guest artist in 2003. He choreographed and performed in his own dance production "Tocororo," which broke attendance records at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London due to its immense popularity and the presence of classical dancers from the Royal Ballet.
