Early Life and Education

Carlos Flores Facussé was born into a prominent family in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His father, Oscar Flores, was a successful businessman and founder of the popular newspaper "La Tribuna." As a child, Carlos Flores received his early education in Honduras before continuing his studies in the United States.

Political Career

Flores pursued his higher education in the United States but upon his return to Honduras dedicated himself to a career in politics. He held various government positions and gained prominence as a member of the Liberal Party. In 1980, after a military dictatorship relinquished power, Flores became the fifth democratically elected President of Honduras.

First Presidential Term

In 1989, Flores first ran for President but was defeated. However, he remained an active political figure and served in different capacities within the government. In 2001, he was elected President as the candidate of the ruling Liberal Party. He took office in January 2002 after winning the November election.

Personal Life

Carlos Flores Facussé is married to Mary Flake, an American citizen. They have two children, Carlos David and Mary Elizabeth.
