Early Life and Education
Carola Schouten was born on October 6, 1977, in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. She attended Altena Christian College in Sleeuwijk from 1989 to 1995. Subsequently, she pursued a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam, graduating in 1995-2006. During this period, she also studied at Tel Aviv University in 2000.
Political Career
Member of ParliamentIn 2006, Schouten joined the Christian Union party, assuming the role of coordinator and senior policy officer for finance and social affairs. On May 17, 2011, she became a member of the Netherlands' Second Chamber of Parliament, filling the vacancy created by André Rouvoet's resignation.
Minister of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality
On October 26, 2017, Schouten was appointed as the Third Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality in the third Rutte cabinet. She held this position until January 10, 2022.
Minister for Poverty Reduction, Political Participation, and Pensions
After the 2021 parliamentary elections, Schouten was reappointed as Third Deputy Prime Minister on January 10, 2022. In the fourth Rutte cabinet, she assumed the portfolio of Minister (without portfolio) for Poverty Reduction, Political Participation, and Pensions within the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.
