Biography of Catherine George

Catherine George, a popular writer, was born with the real name Deydr Matthew in a small Welsh village. She got married at a young age and traveled around the world. Although she lived in exotic countries like Brazil, many of her novels are set in the fictional city of Pennington, which combines the charm of English history, successful business, and thriving agriculture. Her childhood village, located on the border of Wales and England, was very small, and the most interesting place for Deydr in the village was the public library. Her mother considered literature as one of the most important activities in life and actively encouraged her daughter's love for reading.

At the age of 18, Miss Matthew met a man who gave her a pendant made of a gold sovereign, which she has worn ever since. He later became her husband and took her far away from her hometown to Brazil. For nine years, he worked as an engineer on a gold mine in the Minas Gerais mountains while Deydr raised their son. When their son grew up, the family decided that he should receive education in England. Upon returning to their homeland, they had another child, and Deydr enjoyed a peaceful family life and her favorite pastime of reading, especially in the bath. However, her husband's work required him to travel abroad for extended periods.

During her lonely hours, Deydr would immerse herself in beloved novels while her husband was away on trips to Portugal, West Africa, and the Middle East, which made it impossible for them to be together with their children. One day, when her husband visited the family during the holidays, he said, "Why do you read what others have written? You can write just as well." Taking this to heart, Deydr approached her new endeavor with great responsibility. She completed creative writing courses for aspiring writers and, after much contemplation, decided to write romance novels.

In order to do so, she had to reread numerous books from the well-known publishing house 'Mills&Boon,' but this time, her focus was not on enjoying their content but rather on unraveling the secrets of plot construction, studying different writing styles, and analyzing character traits. Her efforts paid off! In 1982, Mills&Boon published Catherine George's first novel, which immediately became a bestseller and was named "Book of the Year" by 'Romantic Times'.

Since then, Catherine George has published 78 books. The stories in her early novels are set in an environment reminiscent of her first nine years of married life. However, as she continued to write, she began exploring familiar English realities. Her series "Pennington" and "The D'Azzart Dynasty," featuring interconnected characters, gained particular popularity. Her books are published in many countries and languages. Russian publishers 'Raduga' and 'Centrpoligraf' have released around 30 novels by Catherine George, including both of her well-known series. The first book in "The D'Azzart Dynasty" series, titled "Second Engagement," and the "Pennington" novel "Redemption" received the most positive reviews.

Currently, the author and her husband reside in a beautiful Victorian mansion with a large garden located on a cliff between the Wye Valley and the River Severn in England. Their children have long since flown the nest. Catherine George often ponders ideas for new novels while taking walks with Prince, their huge black Labrador. Additionally, she and her husband enjoy attending the opera, browsing antique shops, and tending to their garden.
