Carol Christine Hilaria Pounder, also known as CCH Pounder, was born on December 25, 1952, in Georgetown, Guyana. She is a Guyanese-American television and film actress. Pounder has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award four times throughout her career. She has appeared in a wide range of films, TV movies, miniseries, plays, and TV series.

In her early years, Pounder intensely studied English in school and later moved to England in 1970. Her debut in the film industry came in 1979 with the movie "All That Jazz." She then landed the lead role in the film "Bagdad Café," which also had a comedic TV series adaptation starring Whoopi Goldberg. Pounder went on to have minor roles in several successful films, but at that time, she primarily focused on her television career.

In the early 1980s, Carol made her first appearance in the television series "Hill Street Blues" and had brief appearances in several other popular shows such as "Miami Vice," "L.A. Law," "The X-Files," "Living Single," and "Quantum Leap." Finally, in 1994, she landed a major role as Dr. Angela Hicks in the series "ER," which she played for three years.

In 1995, Pounder appeared in one of the main roles in the film "Demon Knight" from the project "Tales From The Crypt."
