Early Career at Rosario Central
Cesar Fabian Delgado's professional journey commenced at Rosario Central. Partnering with Luciano Figueroa in the attacking line, he spent three years at the club, amassing 65 appearances and netting 14 goals.
Success at Cruz Azul
In July 2007, Delgado embarked on a new chapter in Mexico, joining Cruz Azul for a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros. He quickly established himself, scoring 16 goals in each of his first two seasons. His performances earned him a call-up to the Argentine national team.
Lyon Adventure
On January 8, 2008, Delgado was acquired by French club Olympique Lyonnais for a sum of 6.3 million euros. Initially intended to fill the void left by Brazilian forward Fred, Delgado showcased his versatility, adapting to a new role on the right wing. In his second season with Lyon, a groin injury sidelined him for several weeks. However, he marked his return with a decisive goal in the Champions League against Liverpool, securing Lyon's first-ever victory over an English team.
Return to Mexico with Monterrey
After three and a half years in France, Delgado returned to Mexico, joining Monterrey on June 10, 2011.
International Career
Delgado's international debut came in 2003 against Chile. He played a pivotal role in Argentina's 2006 World Cup qualification campaign. In 2004, he participated in the Copa America, scoring a goal in the final against Brazil, who ultimately won on penalties. His accolades also include a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he contributed with 2 goals in 6 appearances.
Personal Life
Delgado tied the knot with Mariana in 2003, whom he met in Rosario. His daughter, Dulcinea, was born on March 24, 2004.
Nickname and Legacy
Delgado's nickname, "El Chelito" (The Little Blonde), stems from his fair-haired locks and his resemblance to another Argentine footballer, Marcelo "El Chelo" Delgado, who shared a similar physical trait.
