Early Career and Utrecht

Rob Alflen began his football journey with Utrecht's youth teams, Sporting'70 and Holland. In 1985, he joined Utrecht's first team, making his Eredivisie debut in 1986. Over six seasons, Alflen played 142 league matches and scored 15 goals for Utrecht.

Ajax and Later Playing Days

In 1991, Alflen signed for Ajax, where he competed with several other young talents. Despite limited playing time, he won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons. After leaving Ajax, Alflen played for Vitesse, Sparta Rotterdam, Heracles Almelo, and Cambuur before retiring at age 32.

Coaching Journey

After his playing career, Alflen worked as a sports analyst for Utrecht before becoming an assistant coach at the club. From 2007 to 2008, he served as assistant manager at Haarlem. In 2009, Alflen returned to Utrecht as youth coach, a position he held for two years.

Utrecht Manager

In May 2014, following Jan Wouters' departure, Alflen was appointed Utrecht's head coach. He guided the team to a respectable seventh-place finish in his first season.
