Biography
Cha Sa-soon, currently residing near Seoul, South Korea, is 75 years old. It was only seven years ago, at the age of 68, that she was finally able to obtain her driver's license. Despite taking the test 950 times, Cha is not at all discouraged because she eventually obtained her license. She spent four years attempting to pass the test, but she was unable to score the required 60 correct answers out of 100 questions.
Interestingly, Cha diligently paid the registration fees for each attempt, resulting in a total sum of $4,200. However, she only passed the theoretical part of the exam on her 950th try, leaving the practical driving test ahead of her. Nevertheless, Sa-soon was less concerned about the practical part as she needed a car to transport her vegetables and fruits to the market. Throughout her persistent efforts to pass the driving test, she became a local celebrity. After her 700th attempt, the local media wrote about Cha, and from then on, people eagerly anticipated news of her success. Unfortunately, she had to disappoint her fans approximately 250 more times.
Cha firmly believes that perseverance and hard work will inevitably lead to the desired result, emphasizing the importance of not giving up or backing down. It remains a mystery as to what was so challenging for the elderly Korean woman in a standard test that even the most academically inclined young people can easily pass. However, no matter the difficulty, she eventually triumphed on her 950th attempt and received her long-awaited certificate.
The employees at the driving school Cha attended also became admirers of this resilient Korean woman who could not be broken by hundreds, nearly a thousand failures. When she finally passed the test, the entire driving school celebrated. Thus, the period of Cha having to transport her vegetables and fruits on a handcart came to an end, and with the attainment of her driver's license, even on her almost thousandth attempt, Cha Sa-soon finally gained the opportunity to automate her labor.
