Cha Sa-soon: The Korean Woman Who Passed Her Driving Test on Her 950th Attempt

Cha Sa-soon

Cha Sa-soon, a determined Korean woman, holds the title of the world champion in passing the driver's license exam. She achieved this feat after taking the test a whopping 950 times. While this number may seem disheartening, it begs the question of whether she really needs to drive if she struggled so much with the theory and practice. However, Cha firmly believes that driving is essential, which is why she displayed such admirable perseverance and retook the challenging exam almost a thousand times.

Cha Sa-soon resides in South Korea, near the capital city of Seoul. She is 75 years old and only obtained her driver's license seven years ago, at the age of 68. Despite passing the exam on her 950th attempt, Cha is unfazed by the number of tries it took her because, ultimately, she succeeded in obtaining her license. Determination and Persistence

Interestingly, each time Cha went for another exam, she diligently paid the registration fees. As a result, she spent a total of $4,200 on her countless attempts. It's important to note that she only managed to pass the theoretical part of the exam on her 950th try, with the practical driving portion still ahead. However, Sa-soon worried less about the practical aspect. She needed a car to transport her vegetables and fruits to the market, and during the process of repeatedly retaking the driving test, she became a local celebrity.

A Celebrity and an Inspiration

After her 700th attempt, local media started covering Cha's story, creating anticipation among people wondering if she would pass the exam. Unfortunately, she had to disappoint her supporters approximately 250 more times. Despite this, Cha firmly believed that perseverance and hard work would inevitably lead to the desired outcome, and she never gave up or backed down. It remains a mystery what made the ordinary test so challenging for the elderly Korean woman, as even academically challenged young individuals can easily pass it. Nevertheless, whatever the difficulty was, she conquered it on her 950th attempt and proudly received her long-awaited driver's license.

Respected by the Driving School

The staff at the driving school Cha attended eventually grew to admire this resilient Korean woman who could not be broken despite hundreds, almost a thousand, failures. When she finally passed the exam, the entire driving school celebrated her achievement. With the attainment of her driver's license, albeit on her almost thousandth attempt, Cha Sa-soon bid farewell to the days of manually transporting her produce on a cart. Finally, she gained the cherished opportunity to automate her work.
