Biography of Charles Adelle Lewis Totten
Charles Adelle Lewis Totten was an American officer, professor of military tactics, and writer. He was one of the early influential supporters of British Israelism. Totten was born on February 3, 1851, into a military family. His father, James Totten, was a brigadier general, and his uncle, Joseph Gilbert Totten, served as the head of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

Education and Military Service
Totten graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point (USMA), where he excelled, and studied military affairs and tactics at Massachusetts Agricultural College (now University of Massachusetts, Amherst). He served in the Missouri Artillery before accepting a position as a professor of military tactics at Yale University in 1889, where he remained until 1892. Totten is credited as one of the first to introduce German military wargaming systems in the United States, according to some sources, while others attribute this to W. R. Livermore. His book on military tactical teachings using maps or models, called 'Kriegsspiel,' was published in 1880.

Later Life and Writing Career
After retiring from military service in 1892, Totten dedicated most of his remaining life to writing. His main themes revolved around biblical chronology, biblical prophecies, pyramidology, and British Israelism. Totten became a prolific writer, authoring over 180 books and articles, including the massive 26-volume series 'Our Race' in defense of British Israelism. His works continue to hold significance in certain circles of Christian Zionists.

Legacy and Death
Charles Totten passed away on April 12, 1908. He patented a system of weights and measures in 1884.
