Cheeming Boey: The Art of Caffeine
Early Life and EducationCheeming Boey, born in 1978 in Malaysia, grew up on a poultry farm. He later moved to the United States to pursue higher education, where he initially studied advertising at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco before switching to computer animation.

Career as a Game Designer
In 1999, Boey joined Blizzard Entertainment as a game designer, contributing to the development of "Diablo II" and "Diablo III." From 2007 onwards, he maintained a daily blog, which eventually evolved into the bestselling book "When I Was A Kid" in his native Malaysia in 2012.

Art on Coffee Cups
Boey's unique art form emerged while living in Southern California when he found himself without paper but with an empty coffee cup. Surprised by the harmonious effect of drawing on the cup, he began to refine his technique, creating self-portraits, portraits, comics, and intricate graphics. These designs featured cartoon characters, celebrities, and other pop culture icons.
Commercial Success
The public interest in Boey's coffee cup art led to a thriving business venture. His studio quickly transformed into a repository of coffee cups, each adorned with his distinctive marker drawings. Boey's art became a testament to the pop culture we inhabit, elevating disposable items into works of art.
Collaboration and Recognition
In 2011, Boey's work caught the attention of Sharpie, a leading manufacturer of markers and writing instruments, who enlisted him for their "Start With Sharpie" advertising campaign. In 2012, he shared the stage at the renowned TED Ads Worth Spreading project.
