Early Life and Dance Beginnings
Cheryl Burke was born on May 3, 1984, in the quaint town of Atherton, California. Inspired by her dance-loving parents, she took up ballet at the tender age of four. By age 13, she had transitioned to ballroom and Latin dance, a passion that has shaped her life ever since.
Competitive Success
From the age of 13 onward, Burke competed relentlessly in professional dance competitions. Her unwavering dedication paid off in 2005 when she claimed the San Francisco Open Latin Championship and the Rising Star of America in Latin Dance in Ohio. These early triumphs paved the way for even greater recognition.
"Dancing with the Stars" Stardom
Burke's exceptional talent caught the attention of producers for the hit television show "Dancing with the Stars." In 2006, she made her debut as a professional dancer and quickly became a fan favorite. Partnered with actor and singer Drew Lachey, she emerged victorious in her first season. The following season, she triumphed once more with former NFL player Emmitt Smith. Since then, Burke has become a permanent fixture on the show, aiming to become its first three-time champion.
Dance Studio Ownership and Philanthropy
In 2008, Burke expanded her dance empire by opening her own studio, Cheryl Burke Dance, in San Francisco. She later established a second studio in Mountain View, California, in 2009. Beyond dance, Burke is actively involved in philanthropy. In 2006, she raised $250,000 for her former elementary school through "charity dance lessons." The exorbitant price tag of $31,000 per hour did not deter eager contributors.
