Ademir represented Brazil 21 times, contributing eight goals to his country's cause. He was part of the victorious 1945 Copa Roca squad and played in the 1946 South American Championship, where Brazil finished second. However, the final match against Argentina became infamous for its violent nature, with Ademir suffering several injuries.

In 1950, Ademir was selected for Brazil's World Cup team, becoming one of six Vasco players on the squad. He played in four matches, including the final against Uruguay.
