Early Life and Career Beginnings

Chou Tzuyu was born on June 14, 1999, in Tainan, Taiwan, to a family that included her parents and an older brother. In 2012, Tzuyu's talent was recognized at the MUSE Performing Arts Workshop, and she moved to South Korea to become a trainee under JYP Entertainment.

"Sixteen" and Twice Debut (2015)

In April 2015, JYP and Mnet launched the reality show "Sixteen," where sixteen female trainees competed for a chance to debut as members of Twice. Tzuyu was one of the confirmed contestants and gained popularity throughout the show. While she was initially excluded from the final lineup, Park Jin Young reversed his decision at the last minute, adding Tzuyu as the ninth member.

Twice's official debut took place on October 20, 2015, with the release of the mini-album "The Story Begins."

Rise to Fame (2016)

Twice achieved significant success in early 2016 with the release of their single "Cheer Up." The song became a hit in Korea and won "Song of the Year" at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, marking the group's first Daesang (major award).

Recognition and Controversy

In 2016, Tzuyu was ranked third most popular idol by Gallup Korea's annual music poll. She received recognition for her natural beauty and vocal abilities.

However, Tzuyu also faced controversy in November 2015 when she appeared on the television show "My Little Television" holding the Taiwanese flag alongside the South Korean flag. The incident sparked outrage in China, leading to an apology video from Tzuyu.

Educational Background

In spring 2016, Tzuyu enrolled in Hanlim Multi Art School along with fellow Twice members Chaeyoung and Dahyun. She graduated from the school on February 12, 2019, along with Chaeyoung.
