Biography of Chris Spedding
Early Life and CareerChris Spedding is an English rock musician, guitarist, and vocalist. Born as Peter Robinson in 1944 in Staveley, Derbyshire, he was raised by his adoptive parents Muriel and Jack Spedding in Sheffield and Birmingham. They gave him the name Christopher John Spedding. Spedding developed a passion for music and began playing in the musical group 'Battered Ornaments', where he even became the frontman for a period of time. He later joined the quartet 'Frank Ricotti Quartet' and recorded the album 'Our Point of View' in 1969.
Collaboration with Jack Bruce and Solo Career
During the same period, Spedding was invited by Jack Bruce to collaborate on his debut solo album 'Songs for a Tailor' in 1969 and 'Harmony Row' in 1971. Spedding also released his own instrumental solo album titled 'Songs Without Words' in 1970 on the 'Harvest Records' label, which was only released in Europe and Japan.
Session Work and Success
Spedding became a highly sought-after session musician, working with renowned artists such as Mike Gibbs, John Cale, and Roy Harper. He played in bands like 'The Wombles', 'Nucleus', 'The Sharks', and many others. His greatest success came with his solo hit 'Motor Bikin'' in 1975, which reached the Top 20 in the British charts. It is known that Spedding was the producer of the Sex Pistols' first demo in the spring of 1976.
Continuing Music Career
Spedding continued to actively perform and record, often sharing the success of other musicians, but never achieving his own triumph. Many musicians who deeply respect and appreciate him as a musician believe that his lack of success is simply due to his unfortunate luck. Nevertheless, Spedding continues to perform and record to this day. In 2011, he performed at the Glastonbury Festival. In the same year, he joined the newly formed group 'King Mob' with Steve Parsons, Martin Chambers, Glen Matlock, and a new guitarist named Sixteen. Spedding's discography consists of around twenty albums and four singles.
