Biography of Chris Spheeris

Composer and multi-instrumentalist, Chris Spheeris, began writing guitar songs as a teenager. He was inspired by the spiritual and folk music of his native Greece and other countries, as well as classical and pop music. He blended all these elements into his own unique musical style. The elements of folk music were particularly noticeable in his early works when he collaborated with guitarist/composer Paul Voudouris in the 70s and early 80s. After the group disbanded, Spheeris started creating more complex compositions for keyboards. His musical interests also extended to electronic music, and traces of ambient music began to appear in his melodies. It was in this genre that he recorded several demo tapes. One of these tapes caught the attention of Columbia Records, with whom he signed a contract to release his albums in 1985. Under this label, Spheeris released his debut albums "Desires Of The Heart" and "Pathways To Surrender," after which he left to establish his own label, Essence, under which most of his solo albums were released, as well as a few recorded after reuniting with Paul Voudouris - "Enchantment" and "Nothing But The Truth".

In addition to releasing music albums, Spheeris actively participated in the soundtracks of documentary films for television. In the early 2000s, he began collaborating with Higher Octave Records and released his first album under this label, "Dancing With The Muse". Chris Spheeris' favorite words are: "A musician should not be afraid of taking risks. Risk is the key to great art. When a musician loses the risk, it's the end."
