Clearchus of Soli
Early Life and EducationClearchus was a philosopher and student of Aristotle. He is known as a Peripatetic philosopher, belonging to the school founded by Aristotle.
Literary Works
Much of what is known about Clearchus' writings comes from Athenaeus' "Deipnosophists." His works covered a wide range of topics, including psychology, ethics, and natural science. Notable works include:

Surviving Fragments
Only a fragment of Clearchus' treatise "On Sleep" has survived, known through medieval manuscripts. Small excerpts also remain from his "Encomium to Plato" and "On Mathematical Reasoning in Plato's Republic," indicating his inclination towards popular forms of Platonism.
Lunar Theory
In his work "On the Face Appearing in the Moon," Plutarch attributes a theory to Clearchus that the Moon is a giant mirror reflecting the Earth.
