Biography of Sir Clifford Stron Husbands

Sir Clifford Stron Husbands was born on August 5, 1926, in Morgan Lewis Plantation, St. Andrew Parish. He attended St. Lucy Boys' School in 1931 and successfully completed his education there in 1936. From 1936 to 1946, he furthered his education at Parry School and Harrison College.
After graduating from college, Sir Clifford taught at Parry School for three years before he left for London. In London, he enrolled at Middle Temple to study jurisprudence. Upon earning his law degree, Sir Clifford returned to Barbados in 1952.
For several years, he worked as a lawyer, opening his own private practice. During this time, Sir Clifford also pursued a career in public service and became a government official. Between 1954 and 1960, he held various legal appointments in Grenada, Antigua, Montserrat, and Nevis-Anguilla.
In 1960, Sir Clifford returned to Barbados and received a new appointment as Assistant Attorney General. Seven years later, in 1967, he became the Attorney General of Barbados and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1968.
In 1976, Sir Clifford received another appointment and became one of the judges of the Supreme Court of Barbados. After some time, he was appointed Chief Justice. He served in this role for many years until 1996.
On June 1, 1996, Sir Clifford Stron Husbands was sworn in as the Governor-General of Barbados. He held this esteemed position until his retirement.
For his outstanding service to the country, Sir Clifford Stron Husbands was honored with several government awards. In 1986, he was awarded the "Gold Crown of Merit." In 1995, he was made a "Knight of St. Andrew," and in 1989, he received the "Companion of Honour" award.
