Early Life and College Career

Cobi Jones grew up in Southern California and began playing soccer at the age of 5. He went on to become a standout player at Westlake High School, earning a scholarship to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). At UCLA, Jones was a walk-on player who eventually became one of the most successful players in the program's history.

Professional Career Abroad

After the 1994 FIFA World Cup, Jones signed with Coventry City in the English Premier League. However, he struggled for playing time and scored only two goals in his only season with the club. He later trained with FC Köln in Germany before joining Brazilian club Vasco da Gama.

Los Angeles Galaxy

Jones played for the Los Angeles Galaxy from 1996 until his retirement in 2007. His best season came in 1998, when he finished second in the MLS with 32 points (19 goals, 13 assists). He was named to the MLS Best XI and also won U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year.

National Team Career

Jones holds the record for most appearances with the U.S. men's national team with 164 caps. He played in the 1994, 1998, and 2002 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 1992 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup Best XI and won the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Coaching Career

After retiring as a player, Jones became an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Galaxy. He briefly served as the team's interim head coach in 2008. In 2011, he joined the New York Cosmos as their Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations.
