Colin Farrell was born on May 31, 1976, in Dublin, Ireland. He grew up in a large family with his father, Imon Farrell, being a football player for Shamrock Rovers, and his mother, Rita Farrell, taking care of the household and raising the children. Colin had two sisters and an older brother.

During his childhood, Colin attended Castleknock National School, and later a local college.
