Early Life and Education

Collette Dinnigan was born in South Africa on September 24, 1965, as the youngest of three sisters. Her family relocated to New Zealand during her early years, where she spent her formative years. After high school, Dinnigan pursued fashion design at the Wellington Institute of Technology in New Zealand.

Career Beginnings

After completing her studies, Dinnigan moved to Sydney, Australia, where she worked as a costume designer for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. This marked the inception of her fashion industry journey. Initially, success was not immediate, and she toiled diligently to establish herself as a notable figure in fashion.

Launching Her Brand

In 1990, Dinnigan ventured out on her own, establishing her eponymous label, 'Collette Dinnigan'. Her meticulous attention to detail, knowledge of historical costume, and creative flair enabled her to design garments that were both aesthetically pleasing and wearable. In 1992, she launched her first standalone boutique in Australia.

International Success

Dinnigan's collections quickly gained global recognition. She began exporting to New York City, London, and Hong Kong within a short period. In 1995, she made history as the first Australian designer to showcase her prêt-à-porter collection in Paris.

Awards and Accolades

Dinnigan's talent and entrepreneurship have been widely recognized. In 1996, she was named 'Australian Designer of the Year'. The following year, she received the 'Louis Vuitton Business Award.' Since then, she has continued to accumulate accolades both in Australia and internationally.

Collaborations and Partnerships

Like Stella McCartney and Zac Posen, Dinnigan collaborated with the Australian department store 'Target' to launch a lingerie line named 'Wild Hearts' in 2008.

Personal Life

Dinnigan was romantically involved with Richard Wilkins, a prominent Australian television host. Their relationship had its ups and downs, and on August 2, 2004, Dinnigan gave birth to their daughter, Estella Sophia Dinnigan. However, the couple eventually parted ways.
