Biography of Constance Ford
Constance Ford, born as Connie Ford Halsman, was an American actress and model. She was born on July 1, 1923, in The Bronx, New York City.
Early Career and Modeling
Initially, Ford worked as a model and gained recognition through the advertising campaign for Elizabeth Arden's 'Victory Red' lipstick in 1941. Her face adorned billboards opposite the American flag, capturing the attention of the public.
Success on Broadway and Television
Ford achieved considerable success in 1949, performing on Broadway. Her television career began a year later, with appearances in various teleplays and series such as 'Studio One,' 'Armstrong Circle Theater,' 'Goodyear Television Playhouse,' and other well-known multi-episode projects. Ford played the role of Frances Walden in an episode of the series 'Perry Mason' titled 'The Case of the Deadly Double,' which aired on March 1, 1958.
Transition to Film and Soap Operas
In 1959, Ford made her transition to the big screen, portraying the role of Sandra Dee's mother, Helen Jorgenson, in the melodrama 'A Summer Place' directed by Delmer Daves. Aside from her roles in series such as 'The Edge of Night' and 'Another World,' Ford secured key roles in two other soap operas. She played the main character, Lynn Sherwood, in the series 'Woman with a Past,' as well as Rose Peabody in the CBS series 'Search for Tomorrow.'
Television Success and Later Career
Ford's assertiveness and self-confidence made her a favorite among several casting directors. She frequently appeared in episodes of series such as 'The Kraft Television Theater,' 'State Trooper,' 'Bat Masterson,' 'Have Gun Will Travel,' 'Rawhide,' and 'Gunsmoke.' Ford also made notable appearances in series such as 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents,' 'Target: The Corruptors!,' 'The Twilight Zone,' and an episode of the western series 'Tombstone Territory' titled 'Silver Killers.'
Legacy in Soap Opera
Ford gained long-lasting recognition for her role as Ada Hobson, the strong-willed mother of Rachel, played by Robin Strasser and Victoria Wyndham, in the soap opera 'Another World.' She portrayed the character from 1967 until 1992 when she left the show due to health issues. In the series, Ada's departure was explained as her moving out of town to be with her daughter, Nancy. Interestingly, when Ford passed away from cancer the following year at the age of 69, her character Ada also died according to the storyline. Ford held the record for being the longest-serving cast member on 'Another World' until her death, which subsequently passed on to Victoria Wyndham and remained with her as long as the show aired.
