Biography of Costas Mandylor

Costas Mandylor, born Costas Theodosopoulos on September 3, 1965, is a Greek-Australian actor. He is best known for his role as Kenny in 'Picket Fences' and as Mark Hoffman in the 'Saw' film series. Mandylor was born in Melbourne to taxi driver Yannis Theodosopoulos and his wife, Louisa Mandilaris. He has Greek ancestry, but later changed his surname officially, considering his original Greek surname to be too long. He constructed an alternative surname from his mother's maiden name.

Early Years

Mandylor spent his childhood in St Kilda and South Melbourne. In 1987, he moved to the United States, where he took acting lessons. However, it took him some time to find acting work, and he earned a living through various means. Despite the challenges, Mandylor never lost hope and eventually luck turned in his favor.

Early Acting Roles

Mandylor's first major role was in the 1989 film 'Triumph of the Spirit', directed by Robert Young. The film was set in the Auschwitz concentration camp and tells the true story of a Jewish boxer forced to showcase his talents for the SS to save his family. After this, Mandylor moved to Los Angeles, where he met director Oliver Stone. He then landed a role as an Italian count in the film 'The Doors' released in 1991. In the same year, he played the role of mobster Frank Costello in the crime drama 'The Mobsters'.

Career Breakthrough

In 1992, Mandylor obtained one of the main roles in the CBS series 'Picket Fences'. He portrayed Officer Kenny Lacos until the show concluded in 1996. In 2006, he gained another significant role as Detective Mark Hoffman in the 'Saw' film series. Mandylor was actively involved in sports for some time and even played professional soccer for Greek and Australian teams in Europe. However, a leg injury ended his football career. Nonetheless, he continues to actively participate in boxing.

Personal Life

In 1991, Mandylor was included in People magazine's list of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World". He married actress Talisa Soto, known for her role as Princess Kitana in the film 'Mortal Kombat', in May 1997. However, their marriage ended in 2000. Mandylor's brother, Louis Mandylor, is also an actor, and the two have appeared together in an episode of the series 'Charmed'.
