Early Life and Education
Hout Nem was born in Cambodia and attended Lyc?e Sisowath in 1949. He later became a teacher in the Kampong Cham province.
Revolutionary Beginnings
In 1960, under the influence of his colleague Tiu Ol, Hout Nem embraced communism. He joined the communist movement and briefly worked with Khieu Samphan on the weekly newspaper "L'Observateur."
Political Career
In 1971, Hout Nem became a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK). He held the position of party secretary for the Northern Zone from 1965 to 1975, when he was replaced by his assistant, Ke Pauk.
Purge and Execution
In 1976, Hout Nem was arrested and detained in the notorious Tuol Sleng prison (S-21). He was subsequently executed in 1977. The exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
