American Bodybuilder Craig Titus
Craig Michael Titus was born on January 14, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan. In school, Titus played American football but was unable to pursue a career in it due to his short stature and lack of necessary weight. He only weighed 60 kilograms at the time. After finishing school, Craig decided to build some muscle and started attending a gym.
Early Career
Titus attributes his first bodybuilding performance to the year 1988. The Houston Championship, where young Craig made his debut, significantly influenced the fate of the aspiring athlete. "I weighed 79 kg and even with that weight, I managed to win in the overall category," recalls Titus. "I remember after the awards ceremony, the honorable guest of the tournament, Lee Labrada, approached me, congratulated me on the victory, and said that with my physique, I should go pro. Believe me, hearing something like that from a sports legend is the best motivation to achieve a goal."
Prior to this event, bodybuilding was just a way for Titus to relieve accumulated tension. However, he firmly decided to dedicate himself to bodybuilding. Craig started competing once a year and gradually achieved good results: 1st place at the Houston Championship in 1989, the following year he became the winner of the Western States Cup, and in 1991, he won the "Ironman" amateur tournament in California weighing 93 kg! According to Titus, it was this victory that catalyzed his career. He began to appear on magazine covers more often, and his name was frequently mentioned in conversations among professionals about the future of bodybuilding.
Professional Career
In 1994, at the United States Championship among amateurs, Craig lost by a few points to another young athlete, Dennis Newman. The following year, a similar situation occurred with Paul DeMayo. However, in the next season, the reward found its way to the hero, and Titus earned the coveted professional card that Labrada once foresaw for him.
Unfortunately, a few months later, fate played a cruel joke on the talented athlete. In 1997, he was sent to prison on charges of possession and distribution of steroids. Craig was released in February 1999. The only regret he has is the inability to train as a true professional for two years. "While my former opponents were building mass and refining their physique, I was behind bars," says Titus. "Now, I am ready to tear them apart on the stage like a bulldog, and I will do everything possible to achieve that," he concludes.
