Cyprian Katsaris: A Virtuoso Pianist and Composer
Cyprian Katsaris is a French pianist and composer of Cypriot descent. Born in Marseille, France, he grew up in Cameroon, where he began studying music at the early age of four with Marie-Gabrielle Louwers.
Early Life and Training
After his family relocated to Paris in 1965, Katsaris entered the prestigious Paris Conservatory. There, he honed his skills under the tutelage of renowned pianists Aline van Barentzen and Monique de la Bruchollerie in piano, as well as René Leroy and Jean Hubeau in chamber music.
Competition Victories and Accolades
Katsaris's exceptional talent was recognized early on. He triumphed at the International Young Pianists' Competition in Versailles in 1974 and became a laureate or finalist in several other prestigious contests.
Extraordinary Repertoire
Katsaris boasts an extensive repertoire that spans from Bach to Prokofiev. However, he is particularly renowned for his transcriptions of orchestral works, notably Franz Liszt's piano arrangements of Beethoven's symphonies. Katsaris also performs his own original transcriptions.

Piano 21 and Recording Career
In 2000, Katsaris established his own recording studio, Piano 21, where he records and produces his own music, further cementing his legacy as a prolific and versatile musician.
