Dan Petrescu: Romanian Football Legend
Dan Petrescu is a former Romanian footballer and current football manager. Born in Bucharest, Romania, he holds dual Romanian and British citizenship.
Playing Career
Petrescu played as a defender and winger for various clubs throughout his professional career. He represented the Romania national team 95 times, scoring 12 goals. Notably, all 12 matches in which Petrescu scored resulted in wins for Romania. He participated in two World Cups, scoring against the United States in 1994 and England in 1998.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Petrescu began his managerial career. He took over as head coach of FC Unirea Urziceni in 2006, leading the team to success in European competitions. However, he resigned in 2009 due to a conflict with the club's owner.
FC Kuban Krasnodar
Shortly after leaving Unirea Urziceni, Petrescu was appointed manager of FC Kuban Krasnodar. He signed a three-year contract worth €1 million up front and €500,000 per season. He guided Kuban to the Russian Premier League and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.
