Biography of Dana Reeve

Dana Charles Morosini, known to the world as Dana Reeve, was an American actress, singer, and the head of a charitable foundation for paralyzed individuals. Born on March 17, 1961, in Taneck, New Jersey, Dana grew up in Greenburgh, New York. She graduated from Edgemont High School in 1979 and went on to receive an honors degree in English literature from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1984. She also studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and took additional acting lessons at the California Institute of the Arts.

In April 1992, Dana married actor Christopher Reeve, best known for his portrayal of Superman, in Williamstown, Massachusetts. They welcomed their son, William Elliot Reeve, or Will, in June of the same year. Dana had a deep love for horseback riding but stopped after Christopher's accident to avoid causing him any pain. As an actress, Dana appeared in several television series, including "Law & Order," "All My Children," and "Oz," as well as films such as "Steel Magnolias," "Above Suspicion," and "The Brooke Ellison Story." She also performed in theatrical productions on Broadway and other New York stages.

In the 1990s, Dana became known for her role in Tide detergent commercials. She co-hosted a daytime talk show and wrote a column for the website AccessLife.com. Dana also recorded the title track for the film "In the Gloaming," which was directed by her husband Christopher and starred Glenn Close and Bridget Fonda.

Dana's life took a tragic turn in 2004 when Christopher suffered a horse-riding accident that left him completely paralyzed. Dana devoted almost a decade of her life to caring for Christopher and their home. Despite the challenges they faced, she drew strength from her husband's example and remained resilient. In 2005, Dana was diagnosed with lung cancer, a fact she chose to share after a tabloid threatened to reveal the information. That same year, she received the "Mother of the Year" award from the American Cancer Society for her dedication and determination in raising her son after her husband's death.

In her final public appearance, Dana revealed that her treatment had been successful, and her tumor had shrunk. On January 12, 2006, she performed in honor of her friend Mark Messier, a hockey player for the New York Rangers, at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, she passed away on March 6, 2006, just 11 days before her 45th birthday, at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Dana left behind her son Will, her father, two sisters, and Christopher's two adult children. She maintained a positive outlook and a smile until the very end.

Following Dana's death, the management of the Christopher Reeve Foundation passed to Christopher's older children, Matthew and Alexandra, and eventually to Will. The sixteenth episode of the fifth season of the television series "Smallville" and the film "Superman Returns," released in 2006, were dedicated to the memory of both Dana and Christopher.
