Early Steps at West Bromwich
Gabbidon started his professional football journey with West Bromwich Albion. He signed his first professional contract in 1998 and made his debut for the club in 1999.
A Right-Back in Demand
At West Bromwich, Gabbidon played primarily as a right-back. However, with the arrival of manager Gary Megson, he lost his place in the starting lineup to Des Little.
A Season on Loan: Cardiff City
In 2000, Gabbidon was loaned to Cardiff City, where he impressed and signed a permanent contract in September 2000. Cardiff became a significant club in his career, as he played nearly 200 matches and helped them rise through the ranks.
A Move to West Ham: Reunion with Collins
In 2005, West Ham United signed Gabbidon and James Collins, his former teammate at Cardiff. Gabbidon immediately became a regular in the starting lineup, while Collins took some time to establish himself.
