American professional basketball playerDaniel Gibson is a former American professional basketball player who played for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was born in Houston to Byron and Cheryl Gibson, with his father also playing basketball for the University of Houston. Gibson excelled academically at Jones High School in Houston and was a member of the National Honor Society for students with grades 10-12. He was also a star player on the school's basketball team, averaging 25.5 points and 9.3 assists per game in his senior year of high school. In 2004, he helped his school team win the Texas state championship for the first time since 1965 and was included in the McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Team.
College career
After graduating from high school, Gibson enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin. He immediately secured a starting position as the team's point guard. Throughout his college career, Gibson played 68 games, averaging 13.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. In his debut season, he was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year. In his second season, he received an honorable mention in the Associated Press' All-American Team and was included in the third team of the Big 12 Conference. Gibson also set a university record by making 101 three-pointers in a single season. In the 2006 NBA Draft, Gibson was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round with the 42nd overall pick.
Personal life
In March 2009, Gibson started dating R&B singer Keyshia Cole. They got engaged on January 1, 2010, and their son, Daniel Hiram Gibson Jr., was born on March 2. They married in a private ceremony in Cleveland on May 21, 2011, and had a lavish wedding ceremony in Hawaii on September 24 of the same year. In the first quarter of 2012, a reality show about Gibson and Cole's life titled "Family First" was set to air.
