Biography of Daniil Barantsev

Daniil Barantsev is an American figure skater of Russian origin who specialized in ice dancing with his partner and wife, Jennifer Wester. He achieved success early in his career, winning two consecutive World Junior Championships with his previous partner, Natalia Romanova, in 2000 and 2001.

Early Success and Partnership with Romanova

After their back-to-back victories at the World Junior Championships, Barantsev and Romanova were considered one of the most promising Russian ice dance pairs. However, their partnership came to an end in 2002. Romanova got married and started a family, while Barantsev relocated to the United States to train under coach Nikolai Morozov.

Partnership with Wester and Marriage

In 2003, Barantsev teamed up with Jennifer Wester. The couple got married on May 6, 2006. Barantsev faced difficulties in obtaining permission from the Russian Figure Skating Federation to compete internationally for the United States. As a result, they could only participate in domestic competitions until the 2007-2008 season.

International Success and Retirement

After finally being granted the opportunity to compete internationally, Wester and Barantsev won the Nebelhorn Trophy in 2007. They went on to place fifth at the U.S. Championships and fourth at the Four Continents Championships. The couple also participated in the Grand Prix series in the 2008-2009 season, but had to withdraw from the U.S. Championships due to an injury.

Later Endeavors

Following their withdrawal from competition, Wester and Barantsev decided to retire from competitive skating. In 2010, Barantsev took part in the American television show "Skating with the Stars" on ABC, where he was partnered with actress Sean Young.
