Early Life and Skating Career
Maria Borounov (née Fuchs) was born in Perth, Australia. She began skating at the relatively late age of 11, which is unusual for modern figure skating.
Partnership with Evgeni Borounov
In 2002, Maria married Evgeni Borounov, a Russian figure skater who had emigrated to Australia. They formed a skating partnership and competed together.
International Success
The duo made their international debut in the 2005-2006 season. In 2007, they won the Australian National Championships, becoming the country's ice dancing champions.
Training and Coaching
Until 2010, Maria and Evgeni lived and trained in Moscow under the guidance of coaches Elena Kustarova and Svetlana Alekseeva. However, they were affiliated with the Cockburn Ice Arena in Perth, Maria's hometown.
Independent Preparation
During the 2010-2011 season, Maria and Evgeni prepared for competitions without a coach, choreographing their own programs.
