Early Life and Career
Dave Benton, an Estonian musician and pop singer, was born in 1951 on the Caribbean island of Aruba. His father was from Zimbabwe and his mother from Poland.
Musical Beginnings
Benton began his artistic career in Aruba. At the age of 25, he moved to Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the United States, where he performed in various shows and sang with renowned groups like The Drifters, The Platters, and Tom Jones.
European Success
After relocating to the Netherlands, Benton participated in several entertainment projects. In 1994, he accepted a role in the Berlin musical "City Lights." He also graced stages in other European nations.
Eurovision Triumph
In 1997, Benton settled in Estonia. His partnership with Taniel Padar at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen brought him international fame. Their performance of "Everybody" with the group "2XL" marked a historical victory as Benton became the first African American artist to win the competition.
Solo Career and Fame
Following his Eurovision success, Benton released his debut solo album, "From Monday to Sunday," in 2001. He became one of Estonia's most celebrated pop musicians.
Personal Life
While living in the Netherlands in the 1980s, Benton met his future wife, Maris, an Estonian. They have two daughters together, Sissi and Liza.
