Early Life and Education

Michael E. Brown was born in 1958 in England. He developed a passion for astronomy at an early age and pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of London, graduating in 1979. Brown then journeyed to the United States to continue his higher education, earning a Master of Science degree in Planetary Science from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 1980. He remained at Caltech for his doctoral studies in Astronomy, receiving his PhD in 1983.

Academic Career

Upon completing his doctorate, Brown embarked on an academic career. He joined the faculty of the Institute for Astronomy at the University of Hawaii as a Professor. Throughout his tenure at the university, Brown established himself as a leading expert in various fields of astronomy, focusing primarily on the study of the Kuiper Belt, Solar System formation history, and the physical properties of comets.
