Charles Band was born in Portland, Oregon, and embarked on his filmmaking journey at the early age of 20. He relocated to Los Angeles and landed a role as a production assistant at Roger Corman's New World Pictures in the 1980s.

New World Pictures and "Escape from New York"

Band's first involvement in the film industry came in 1980 when he worked on the iconic film "Escape from New York." This experience honed his skills and prepared him for his future endeavors.

Rise of the Horror Maestro: "Dreamaniac" and Empire Pictures

In 1986, Band directed his debut film titled "Dreamaniac." Following its release, producer Charles Band offered him a 10-picture contract with Empire Pictures. This marked the beginning of Band's foray into the world of B-movie horror and erotic films, for which he would later become renowned.

Alias and Versatility

From 1989 onwards, Band adopted the pseudonym Ellen Cabot for his ventures into dramas, comedies, and science fiction films. He also assumed various other stage names, including Julian Brin, Victoria Sloan, Jack Reed, Martin Tate, and Richard Chasen.

Canadian Citizenship and Rapid Hearts Pictures

After the turn of the millennium, Band relocated to Winnipeg, Canada, and obtained Canadian citizenship. He founded his own production company, Rapid Hearts Pictures, in 1999. Through this venture, he continued to produce a diverse range of films.
