Establishing Shakti Films

In 1954, Samanta directed his first feature film, 'Bahu,' starring Karan Devan, Usha Kiran, Shashikala, and Pran. Success and Legacy

The first film released under Samanta's new label was the mysterious murder story 'Howrah Bridge,' starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala. The film became a box office hit, thanks to Madhubala's incredible performance and the wonderful music composed by Omkar Prasad Nayyar. This marked a turning point in Shakti Samanta's career.

Overall, Shakti Samanta directed and produced 43 films, with 37 in Hindi and 6 in Bengali. In 1984, he became the first producer to make a joint Indian-Bangladeshi film.
