Biography of David DeFeis
David DeFeis is the vocalist of the American heavy metal band Virgin Steele. He is the only member who has been with the band since its formation in 1981.
Early Life and Musical Career
David formed his first rock band at the age of 11 and developed a passion for music from a young age. He joined Virgin Steele after seeing an advertisement in a newspaper, following the departure of Jack Starr. In the band, David essentially became the leader and the primary songwriter.
In addition to his work with Virgin Steele, David created three metal operas: "The House of Atreus: Act I" (1999), "The House of Atreus: Act II" (2001), and "Lilith" (2005). These operas were performed in Germany, with Walter Weyers directing the productions in the city of Memmingen. "Lilith" also had a performance in Munich.
Collaborations and Current Projects
In 2002, David participated in the project Avantasia. Currently, he is involved in the creation of a new rock band with former Blind Guardian drummer Thomen Stauch and Domain guitarist Axel Ritt. This new band focuses on playing epic speed/power metal.
Personal Life
David's parents are Italian immigrants who moved to the United States from Italy. His father was an actor who performed in Shakespearean productions on Broadway. His sister, Dorin DeFeis, is a renowned opera singer currently living in Germany. His other sister, Danae DeFeis, is a vocalist in the rock band Stalk from New York.
David is married and does not have any children. He has a love for cats and shares his home with four of them. He enjoys red wine and collects antique swords. His musical preferences include Wagner, Debussy, and Chopin.
