Early Career: Blackburn Rovers

David Dunn began his football journey with Blackburn Rovers, initially joining the club's youth team. His senior debut for the Rovers came on September 26, 1998, as a late substitute in a goalless draw against Everton. On February 26, 1999, he scored his first goal for Blackburn, finding the back of the net against Aston Villa.

The New Gazza: Rise to Prominence

During the 2000-2001 season, David Dunn became an integral part of Blackburn's success, playing a pivotal role in their return to the Premier League. He scored a hat-trick of penalties in a League Cup match against Rochdale, showcasing his exceptional technique. In the following season, he continued to impress, helping Blackburn win the League Cup. Earning comparisons to Paul Gascoigne for his flair and ability, he received his first England call-up in 2001.

Decline and Departure from Blackburn

However, Dunn's form declined in the 2002-2003 season, and a move to the right wing failed to revitalize his performances. A disagreement with manager Graeme Souness led to Dunn's decision to leave Blackburn in the summer of 2003.

Birmingham City and Injury Struggles

Blackburn initially rejected offers for Dunn, but eventually agreed to sell him to Birmingham City for £5.5 million. He made a goalscoring debut for Birmingham against Tottenham Hotspur in August 2003. However, injuries plagued Dunn throughout his time at Birmingham. Birmingham were relegated from the Premier League in 2005-2006.

Return to Blackburn

In January 2007, Dunn signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Blackburn, despite initially agreeing to join Bolton Wanderers. He made his second debut for Blackburn in February 2007, earning a crucial penalty in a victory over Sheffield United.

Career Twilight

Dunn continued to play for Blackburn until 2010, making significant contributions in the 2009-2010 season with four goals in the first six league matches. He extended his contract until 2012 and reached the milestone of 50 goals for the club.

International Career

David Dunn represented England at the youth level with 22 appearances and three goals from 1999 to 2002. He earned his only senior international cap in a friendly against Portugal in September 2002.
