David Navarro

Early Career and Loan to Mallorca

Navarro joined the Valencia senior team in 2001 but struggled to establish himself as a regular player for the club. Despite his talent, he played in the shadow of other central defenders, including Marchena, Ayala, and Albio. As a result, in the 2006/2007 season, Navarro was loaned to Mallorca. This loan move was partly due to his involvement in a scandalous incident after a match against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

After Albio's transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009, Navarro returned to Valencia and earned a place in the club's starting lineup. He also became the vice-captain of the team. Navarro's return marked a turning point in his career as he finally had the opportunity to showcase his skills and leadership on the field.

The Inter Milan Incident

On March 6, 2007, after a match between Valencia and Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, a verbal altercation broke out between Navarro's teammate Carlos Marchena and Inter's Nicolas Burdisso. Navarro, who was a substitute player in the match, intervened to defend his teammate and ended up punching Burdisso in the face, breaking the Argentine's nose. This escalated the conflict, and players from both teams got involved. Navarro had to flee the scene to escape the enraged Inter players. The incident resulted in fines for both clubs and various degrees of suspensions for the individuals involved. Navarro received a 7-month ban, the most severe punishment among all the participants.

Throughout his career, Navarro has achieved notable success. He won the Spanish Championship twice in 2002 and 2004 with Valencia. Additionally, he was part of the Valencia team that won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 2004.
