Early Life and Education

In 1957, Dale Bumpers graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree. He went on to earn his law degree from the same university in 1964.

Legal Career

Following his legal education, Bumpers commenced his career as an attorney in Camden, Arkansas.

Political Career

House of Representatives (1966-1973)

In 1966, Bumpers embarked on his political journey by being elected to the United States House of Representatives. He served in this capacity for seven consecutive terms.

Governor of Arkansas (1975-1979)

In 1975, Bumpers's political career reached new heights when he was elected the 39th Governor of Arkansas. He held this office until 1979.

United States Senate (1979-1997)

Upon completing his governorship, Bumpers was elected to the United States Senate in 1979. He served the people of Arkansas in this esteemed capacity for over 18 years, retiring in 1997.

Personal Life

On November 28, 1957, Bumpers exchanged vows with Barbara Jean Lansford. Together, they welcomed three sons into the world. One of their sons, Mark Pryor, followed in his father's footsteps and served as the Arkansas Attorney General from 1999 to 2003, and later as a United States Senator from Arkansas from 2003 to 2015.
