Davide Bombana, the Italian choreographer, was born in 1958. He studied dance at the ballet school of La Scala Theatre in Milan, which he successfully completed in 1977. After his education, Bombana spent his early years in the ballet company of La Scala, first as a member of the corps de ballet and then as a soloist and a principal. During this time, he performed leading roles in ballets by Maurice Béjart, Glen Tetley, Rudolf Nureyev, Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, and Louis Falco. Subsequently, his dancing career continued in the Pennsylvania Ballet (Philadelphia, USA), Scottish Ballet (Glasgow), and London Festival Ballet.
The longest period of Bombana's career was spent in the Bavarian State Ballet (Munich, Germany), initially as a premier dancer from 1986 to 1991, and later as a choreographer from 1991 to 1998. In Munich, he premiered his own creations, including "Sonata," "Parabola," "Quartet of the End of Time," "Okanagan," "Votzak Fragments," "Luigi Nono," "Phantasmagoria," and "Schoenberg, Opus 4 (Enlightened Night)."
In 1998-1999, Davide Bombana led the Maggio Danza company in Florence. There, he staged his own works, such as "Votzak Fragments," "Theorem," and the Italian premiere of "Enlightened Night." In the last two years, Bombana has worked as a guest choreographer on various stages worldwide. He has created productions such as "From Afar" (France, Australia), "Pentesilea" (Italy), "Votzak Fragments" (Spain), "Under the Skin" (France), and a composition for the Paris Conservatory (January 2002).
Bombana's ballets "Votzak Fragments" and "Luigi Nono" were awarded the Munich Press Prize for "Best Ballet Production" in 1995-1996, and "Luigi Nono" received the Theatre Prize of Bavaria in 1997. In 1998, Davide Bombana became the laureate of the Benois de la Danse Prize for his choreography of "Phantasmagoria" in the Bavarian State Ballet.
