Early Life and TrainingSasha Waltz, a renowned German ballerina and choreographer, commenced her dance training at the tender age of five under the tutelage of Waltraud Kornhaas, a disciple of the legendary Mary Wigman.
International Education and Artistic Evolution
In pursuit of her artistic growth, Waltz embarked on further dance education in Amsterdam (1983-1986) and New York City (1986-1987). These experiences broadened her horizons and influenced her choreographic style.
Founding Sasha Waltz & Guests
In 1993, Waltz founded her own dance company, Sasha Waltz & Guests. The company became known for its innovative, experimental, and highly physical performances that challenged traditional ballet conventions.
Artistic Collaboration and Theater Leadership
From 1999 to 2004, Waltz collaborated with theater director Thomas Ostermeier as the co-head of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz, a prestigious theater in Berlin. This partnership brought together the worlds of dance and theater, resulting in groundbreaking productions.
