The Origins of Detonator
In the depths of December 1990, in the remote and punk-infused city of Omsk, Siberia, a trio of former classmates embarked on a musical journey that would give birth to the metal band Detonator. After much deliberation, they settled on the name "Sacred Steel."
Official Birth: November 20, 1995
The official establishment of Detonator is recognized as November 20, 1995, although the band's roots trace back to 1990. Their humble beginnings were rooted in Siberia, specifically in Omsk.

Detonator's current lineup consists of:- Billy (formerly Heavy) - drums
- Gore (formerly Max, Heavy, Billy, Dyuha) - bass
- Alexey (formerly Anton, Hostuk) - guitar
- Mason - lead guitar, vocals
- Irina - keyboards (since 2004)
The band's signature style is known as "moon metal."
The Genesis of Detonator
The band's story took a significant turn in the summer of 1995 when the same group of musicians, with the assistance of a benefactor, obtained a space in their former school's shooting range. This became the band's rehearsal and creative hub.
The Formation of a Quartet
Initially, the band intended to play complex and intricate music, but they realized that they needed an additional member to handle the intricate guitar arrangements. The perfect candidate emerged: Dyuha's younger brother, Hostuk. However, before Hostuk could officially join, Dyuha was whisked away to Krasnodar Krai by his wife. With Dyuha's departure, Mason promptly proposed his younger brother, Billy, as the new bassist.
"Super Show!"
After a period of training, the newly formed quartet decided to showcase their progress with a public performance. The event was titled "Super Show!" and took place on June 8, 1996. The atmosphere was electric, and the band's energy left an unforgettable impression on the audience.
The Debut Album
With the success of their live debut, Detonator embarked on the task of recording their first album. After a series of personnel changes, they released their debut album, "Left to Right," in 1996. However, it was not widely distributed and remained largely exclusive to friends and acquaintances.
A Setback and a Revival
In October 1997, a devastating flood severely damaged the band's rehearsal studio. The incident threatened the band's future, but a timely invitation to participate in the "Tricky Parade" festival in November sparked a renewed determination.
A New Era
After reconstructing their studio, Detonator resumed writing and performing. They participated in various concerts and festivals, gradually gaining recognition. In 1998, they recorded their second album, "Lunar Tornado," and launched it in 1999.
Experimental Explorations and Continued Evolution
Throughout the 2000s, Detonator continued to experiment with their sound and push the boundaries of their music. They released new albums, faced challenges, and remained committed to their passion. The band's journey continues to unfold, with new chapters yet to be written.
