American Actress Diane Keaton: A Biography

Diane Keaton is an American actress, producer, and director, best known for her roles in the "Godfather" trilogy (1972, 1974, 1990) by Francis Ford Coppola and films by Woody Allen. She adopted her mother's maiden name as her artistic pseudonym. In 1969, she made her stage debut in the cult musical "Hair." It was during this time that she began her long collaboration with Woody Allen, culminating in her titular role in the comedy "Annie Hall" (1977).

After parting ways with Allen (with whom she had a relationship both on and off the set), Keaton became close with Warren Beatty. Together, they worked on projects such as the historical film "Reds" (1981), for which she received another Oscar nomination. Her filmography also includes Oscar-nominated lead roles in "Marvin's Room" (1996) and "Something's Gotta Give" (2003), directing an episode of the cult series "Twin Peaks," and producing the film "Elephant," which won the Palme d'Or in 2003.

In addition to her achievements in the film industry, Keaton is known for her outspoken opposition to plastic surgery. Since 2006, she has been the face of the cosmetics company "L'Oreal." Keaton had to take on a pseudonym because there was already an actress registered in the Screen Actors Guild with the name Diane Hall. Actor Michael Keaton (real name Michael Douglas) faced a similar dilemma later on and chose the same pseudonym as Diane Keaton because he liked the sound of it.
