Diego Gómez: Paraguay's Rising Star
Club CareerDiego Gómez is a Paraguayan professional footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for MLS side Inter Miami and the Paraguay national team. He began his career with Club Libertad, debuting in the Paraguayan Primera División on May 8, 2022 against Club Olimpia. Gómez scored his first goal for Libertad on July 31 in a match against Resistencia. He helped Libertad win the league championship in his debut season.
On July 19, 2023, Gómez transferred to Inter Miami, signing a contract until the end of the 2026 season with an option for an additional year. He made his Inter Miami debut on August 2 in a 2023 U.S. Open Cup match against Orlando City, coming on as a substitute for Benjamin Cremaschi in the 64th minute.
International Career
Gómez made his international debut for the Paraguay national team on September 1, 2022 in a friendly match against Mexico. In 2023, he represented the Paraguay under-20 team at the South American Youth Championship in Colombia. He featured in matches against Uruguay, Ecuador, Brazil, and Colombia (twice).
