Early Life and Education
German clarinetist and music educator, born in Germany. He studied at the Detmold Musikhochschule under Jost Michaels, renowned for his expertise in historical performance practices.
Performance Career
Michael Schneider specialized in the performance of chamber music from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. In 1966, he founded the Consortium Classicum to revive lesser-known works from this period. The ensemble achieved international recognition, particularly for their acclaimed triple album of Mozart's opera transcriptions.
Academic Career
Schneider served as a professor at the Musikhochschule Freiburg from 1975 to 2001. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he published a number of musicological articles covering diverse topics in music history and performance.
