Growing up in her hometown, Diliana received her early gymnastics training from her mother.

At the age of 15, Diliana moved to Sofia to join Bulgaria's national rhythmic gymnastics team. Despite facing stiff competition from teammates like Iliana Raeva, Lilya Ignatova, and Anelia Ralinkova, she quickly rose to prominence. Over a five-year period, Diliana became a two-time world all-around champion.
