Childhood and Early Career

Jalmar Dias:A Brazilian footballer, Jalmar Dias was a central defender who began his career with amateur club Esquiel in Rio de Janeiro.

Rise in the Professional Ranks

In 1959, Dias signed his first professional contract with America for a sum of 10 cruzeiros. Within a year, he had helped the team secure the Rio de Janeiro State Championship. After spending two years at America, he moved to Palmeiras in 1963.

Success with Palmeiras

Dias made his debut for Palmeiras in February 1963. The team boasts a roster filled with national team players, including Ademir, Dúdu, Valdir, and Dias himself. With Palmeiras, Dias won two São Paulo State Championships, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament, and the João Havelange Cup.

Career After Palmeiras

Following his departure from Palmeiras in 1967, Dias joined Atlético Mineiro. He later moved to Santos, where he earned his last trophy, the São Paulo State Championship. Dias ended his career with Botafogo in 1974.

International Career

Dias collected 21 caps for the Brazilian national team, making his debut in May 1962. Notably, he played in the historic matches on November 21, 1965, when Brazil played two games simultaneously against the USSR and Hungary, with Dias featured in the match against the Soviet Union.

Late Career and Legacy

Despite his contributions to the national team, Dias did not travel to the 1970 World Cup after Mario Zagallo replaced João Saldanha as head coach and left Dias out of the squad. Dias passed away in 1990 from a heart attack while watching television.
